NBC Cheer Card
I was fortunate enough to be commissioned by NBC Sports to do one of their Authentic Fan Cheer Cards for the Sacramento Kings. The idea was to feature Richaun Holmes, as he had been out for a while due to an injury and was just coming back, to “hype-up” the fans about his return.
Holmes is known for his dunking ability and high energy, so I wanted to portray both of those aspects on the card with multiple drawings of him in various poses/action shots. The lightning bolts were a final touch, added to give the drawings more power and strength (projection of his scream, power of the dunk, and the strong grip of the ball). I chose to place the drawings of Holmes in an arena background to give the idea that these could be real shots of him from the game fans are going to see.
*Due to Covid-19 and the postponement of the 2020 NBA season, the cheer card has yet to be printed
Process
Round 1
Explore background and type, as well as placement of logos.
Round 2
New background (with subtly of previous background) and type with added texture. Add flares to all drawings to make them all consistent.
Final
Rearrangement of drawings to feel more balanced with two heavier ones on either side and skinnier drawing in middle. Decrease type size to see more of the letters in his name.
